Terms of Use
Last updated:
The short version
- shy is a photo editor that runs on your iPhone. Your photos remain yours — we never receive them and claim no rights to them.
- Premium looks and features come with shy Pro, sold through the App Store as auto-renewing subscriptions or a one-time lifetime purchase.
- Subscriptions renew until you cancel them in your Apple ID settings. Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription.
- Apple handles payments and refunds.
1. Agreement
These Terms are an agreement between you and shy (“shy”, “we”, “us”) about the shy app for iPhone (“the App”) and the website shyedit.com. By downloading or using the App you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
The App is licensed to you under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”). These Terms add to the Standard EULA; if they conflict, these Terms apply to the extent the law allows. Apple is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for the App or its support.
2. Who can use shy
You must be at least 13 years old to use the App. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the App only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who accepts these Terms on your behalf.
3. What the App does
shy lets you edit photos on your iPhone: apply looks at the strength you choose, adjust light, colour, curves and HSL, retouch with local brushes, crop and straighten, go back through your edit history and export a copy as JPEG or PNG. Editing works offline and without an account.
Some looks and features are free; others require shy Pro. We improve the App over time, so features, looks and their appearance may change, be added or be removed.
4. Your licence to use the App
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App on Apple devices you own or control, as allowed by the Standard EULA. You may not copy, resell or redistribute the App or its looks, try to extract their source code or recipes, bypass purchase checks, or use the App in a way that breaks the law or harms others — except where the law expressly permits it.
5. Your photos stay yours
You keep all rights to the photos you edit and the images you export. They are processed on your device; we don’t receive them and don’t get any licence to them. You may use your edited images for any lawful purpose, including commercial use.
You are responsible for having the right to edit and share the photos you use, and for respecting the rights and privacy of people who appear in them. Keep your own backups: the App is not a storage service, and deleting it removes your projects from the device.
6. shy Pro, subscriptions and payment
shy Pro is offered through the App Store as auto-renewing subscriptions and as a one-time lifetime purchase. The available plans, prices and any free trial are shown in the App, in your local currency, before you buy.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase.
- A subscription renews automatically for the same period unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID is charged for the renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends.
- You can manage or cancel a subscription in your iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions (how to cancel). Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription.
- If a plan includes a free trial, cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends to avoid being charged. Any unused part of a free trial ends when you buy a subscription.
- Lifetime access is a one-time purchase that unlocks shy Pro for your Apple ID for as long as we offer the App, without renewals.
- Purchases are tied to your Apple ID, not to a shy account. On a new device, tap “Restore” on the purchase screen.
- If a subscription price changes, Apple informs you in advance and, where required, asks for your consent.
7. Refunds
All payments go through Apple, so we cannot issue refunds ourselves. To request a refund, use reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple decides on refunds under its own policies and applicable law.
8. Our rights
The App, its looks, design, text, the shy name and logo belong to us or our licensors and are protected by law. These Terms don’t transfer any of those rights to you, other than the licence in section 4. Fonts used by the App and this website are licensed under the SIL Open Font License.
9. Privacy
How we handle data is described in the Privacy Policy. In short: your photos, their metadata and location never leave your device.
10. Disclaimers
The App is provided “as is” and “as available”. We work hard to make it reliable, but we don’t promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, that every look will suit every photo, or that it will meet your particular needs. Nothing in these Terms limits the rights you have as a consumer under the law of your country that cannot be excluded by contract.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for loss of data, photos, profits or goodwill arising from your use of the App. Our total liability for any claim relating to the App is limited to the amount you paid for shy Pro in the 12 months before the claim.
These limits don’t apply where the law does not allow them — for example, to liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
12. Ending these Terms
You can stop using shy at any time by deleting the App (remember to cancel an active subscription in Apple settings). We may suspend or end your licence if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms. Sections that by their nature should continue — such as your rights to your photos, disclaimers and limitation of liability — survive.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms, for example when the App or the law changes. We will update the date at the top, and for significant changes let you know in the App or on this website before they take effect. If you keep using the App after changes take effect, the updated Terms apply.
